Lich and Barber are facing criminal charges for their involvement in the demonstration that shut down Ottawa city streets last year while protesters decried the city’s public health measures in response to the coronavirus outbreak.
“This is not the trial of the Freedom Convoy,” Lich’s attorney Lawrence Greenspon said Monday, repeating a phrase he’s repeated so often throughout the first week of the trial that it’s become almost a mantra for the defense.
The Crown intends to call five citizens of Ottawa to the stand as witnesses to the events of the convoy, including Zexie Li, who brought a class action against the organizers on behalf of downtown Ottawa residents and workers.
