I-70, US 6 closed In Both Directions In The Colorado Mountains Due To A Wildfire

The interstate is closed between milemarker 147-157. US 6 and milemarker 150-157. in both directions. Westbound I-70 near Wolcott is now clear. Eastbound I-70 remains closed at this time in support of first responders. 

US Highway 6 is also closed in both directions due to damage to power poles. CDOT crews are working diligently to reopen eastbound and westbound I-70 as soon as possible to avoid an extended closure overnight. 

I-70 East is closed from mile points 147-157 to mile points 150-157. US 6 is closed at mile point 150-157 as well. The fire was originally caused by a vehicle accident on US 6. For all real-time traffic updates, please visit COtrip.org.

CDOT advises drivers to take the northbound route, which is about two and a half hours longer than the southbound route via Glenwood Canyon to I-70. The road will remain closed for several hours during the safety closure, and firefighting operations are expected to continue into the night.
